FBI searching for serial bank robber 'Brim Beanie Bandit'

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force is asking for the public's help in identifying a serial bank robber who they are calling the Brim Beanie Bandit.

The suspect has allegedly robbed four banks and attempted to rob one in the greater Boston area between Dec. 10 and 23, according to officials. The suspect did not show a weapon during any of the robberies, but he is still thought to be armed and dangerous.

The suspect is described as a white male possibly in his late 40's or early 50's. He is 5'7" and weighs about 150 pounds, officials say. During the robberies he has worn a dark sweatshirt or jacket, black pants and gloves, dark brown or black shoes and a black and/or gray brim beanie cap.

The suspect allegedly enters a bank, goes directly to the teller and either shows or leaves a note demanding money. After all of the robberies, the suspect fled the banks in an unknown direction and authorities are unsure if he is using a vehicle to get away.

The suspect is reportedly connected to the following:

  • Attempted robbery at Bank of America, 740 Gallivan Blvd., Dorchester, Mass., on Dec. 10 at 10:56 a.m.
  • Robbery at TD Bank, 516 Adams St., Quincy, Mass., on Dec. 10 at 11:25 a.m.
  • Robbery at South Shore Bank, 1538 Turnpike St., Stoughton, Mass., on Dec. 13 at 10:40 a.m.
  • Robbery at TD Bank, 95 Highland Ave., Needham, Mass., on Dec. 19 at 11:37 a.m.
  • Robbery at Braintree Cooperative Bank, 1010 Washington St., Braintree, Mass., on Dec. 23 at 3 p.m.

The FBI is offering a monetary reward for information that leads to the arrest and charging of the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI's Boston Division at 617-742-5533.
