Boston's homicide rate down, Roxbury sees increase

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston's homicide rate decreased in 2013 in most neighborhoods, but increased dramatically in Roxbury, according to a Boston Herald article.

Thirty-nine homicides were reported this year, which is less than the 54 reported in 2012. Reported killings have been steadily decreasing over the years, with 62 killings reported in 2011 and 74 in 2010. However, Roxbury has seen an increase with 18 reported this year as opposed to 11 last year.

There was only one homicide reported in Charlestown. However, four killings were reported in South Boston and Mattapan/North Dorchester reported six. There were no reports of homicides in the downtown area or East Boston, the Herald reported.
