Man Killed By Suspected Drunk Driver With Prior DUI

Posted: Updated:

In a tragic twist of fate Ken Jackson who's been sober for 27 years, according to friends, died when a suspected drunk driver smashed through his bedroom wall and killed him.

"What do you say to that?  It's very tragic, yeah," said Richard Wood, who's been friends with the victim for more than a decade.

After the car was towed away, you could see just how much damage there was to the home.  The car drove through two walls, and it looked like the frame of the home might collapse.

Families who live in the quiet Mission Viejo neighborhood say they were woken up by the sound of the crash 3 a.m. Sunday.

"It was a loud boom. It was a loud boom. I heard the squealing tires first," said one neighbor.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department arrested the driver of the Cadillac, 27-year-old Kourosh Keshmiri.   "We determined that the driver was possibly under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested for driving under the influence. The passenger was interviewed and released," said Lt. Jeff Hallock.

"They say suspected drunk driver, and it angers me. It angers me," said a neighbor.

What makes this tragic situation worse, is according to the Sheriff's Department Keshmiri has a prior DUI conviction from 2010, a pending DUI case from June of this year, and a suspended driver's license.

The victim's friends who are left in mourning say Ken, who they called "jaws", was a motorcycle mechanic, his life revolved around bikes, and he had the heart of a teddy bear.  "Like Harley riders are, I'd say 95% of them are tough to get to know. But once you get to know them, you know, you find out that they're people and got hearts too," said Wood.
