Illinois welcomes first babies born in 2014!

Illinois welcomed its first baby just a few seconds after midnight.

Chicago born, Luis Anthony, was born to parents Luis and Luz Marquez at Presence Resurrection Medical Center just before 12:01 a.m., according to Olga Solares, a spokesperson for the hospital.

The newborn weighed in at 7 pounds 2 ounces, Solares said.

Luis joins two big sisters, Ari, 11, and Yamileth, 3.

Three healthy baby boys, and a baby girl, were also born on the first of the year.

A Waukegan couple welcomed a son at 12:33 a.m. New Year's Day, making him the first baby born in Lake County.

Kane and Laura Abundes named their boy Lazaro Matias Abunes. He was delivered at NorthShore University HealthSystem Highland Park Hospital, measuring 6 pounds, 8 ounces and 19.5 inches.

A Chicago couple welcomed Cook County's first newborn of 2014 at 5:40 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Jason and Susan Coogan haven't yet named the baby boy, who was delivered at NorthShore University HealthSystem Evanston Hospital, weighing in at 9 pounds, 10 ounces, according to a release from the hospital.

He is the Coogans' second child, the release said. He has a 2-year-old big sister, Reese.

Another Chicago couple on the North Side welcomed their son Alexander just 23 minutes after midnight.

First-time parents Kara and Kevin Lazroff welcomed Alexander Hokan Lazroff at Northwestern's Prentice Women's Hospital at 12:23 a.m., Northwestern Medicine said in a release.

The newborn weighs exactly 9 pounds and is 22 inches long.

Alexander is one of two dozen babies -- including two sets of twins -- delivered at Prentice in the first hours of the new year, according to the hospital.

The baby girl, Laylah Cristina Cholico, was born at 2:40 a.m. at Saint Anthony Hospital in Chicago.

Laylah was born to Lupita Perez. She weighed pounds, 11 ounce, according to the hospital.
