BOSTON (AP) - Boston Mayor-elect Marty Walsh on Saturday named the general manager of the streaming network operated by the Huffington Post as his chief of staff.
Walsh's selection of Daniel Arrigg Koh marks his first major appointment as chief executive officer of New England's largest city. The incoming mayor, who is scheduled to be sworn in on Monday, said his appointee will bring a fresh, new energy to the mayor's office.
Koh currently serves as the general manager of HuffPost Life. He previously worked as chief of staff to the Huffington Post founder and editor-in-chief, Arianna Huntington, a position that involved helping her craft strategy for and manage the work of 700 people at the Huffington Post Media Group. Before that, he served as an adviser to outgoing Mayor Thomas Menino.
Koh also previously worked in strategy and business development for the New England Patriots, nonprofit consulting for defense contractor Booz Allen Hamilton Holding Corp., talent search for executive recruiting firm Spencer Stuart and labor relations for Major League Baseball.
Koh "has broad experience about City Hall and a deep understanding of managing a large, fast-paced organization," Walsh said in a statement. "We have great talent joining us, and I know Daniel will help me transform the way we do things in Boston."
Koh grew up in Andover and earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
