BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An influx of holiday travelers returning home paired with bad weather across the country delayed a number of flights at Boston Logan Airport Sunday.
Sunday morning, JetBlue was reporting at least nine flight cancellations, with other flights significantly delayed in landing or taking off. Cancellations affected a number of destinations across the country, including to Chicago, Seattle, and parts of Florida.
JetBlue released a statement about the delays and cancellations, stating that getting back on schedule will not be resolved by the end of the weekend.
"The combination of peak holiday return travel...plus the winter storm in the Northeast...and new pilot scheduling rules...have combined to significantly impact our operations," read the statement. "We are working hard to reset the operation and get people where they're going, but it will take days, not hours."
United Airlines also had a number of delayed and canceled flights, many to Chicago. Areas of the Midwest, including Chicago, were dealing with extreme cold temperatures and snow.
American Airlines, Delta, and others were also canceling some flights out of Boston or were reporting flight departures with significant delays.
Additionally, some flights at Logan were affected by a temporary suspension of operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City Sunday morning, caused by icy runways. A plane coming from Toronto slid into the snow off the runway at JFK after landing because of the slick conditions.
Richard Walsh, a spokesman for Massport, the port authority that operates Logan Airport, said issues at New York's LaGuardia Airport have also impacted Boston.
Terminal C, where JetBlue is housed, Walsh said, is experiencing the largest impact, with other terminals at the airport operating more smoothly.
Travelers were encouraged to call their airlines or go online to check the status of their flight.
