Pipe bursts at Brigham and Women's, some procedures postponed

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Administrators at Brigham and Women's Hospital were forced to postpone some procedures and divert patients after a pipe burst on the sixth floor of their inpatient facility Tuesday.

The hospital tells FOX 25 the pipe burst in the inpatient building at about 6 a.m., causing flooding on the sixth floor as well as floors below.

Scheduled elective surgical, catheterization lab, and electrophysiology lab procedures were postponed as a result of the flooding. The Emergency Department remained open, but ambulance traffic was diverted to nearby hospitals until 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Approximately 30 patients on the impacted floors were relocated to other parts of the hospital. Their loved ones were notified of their new locations.

Those with additional questions can contact Patient and Family Relations at (617) 732-6636. Further information can also be accessed on the hospital's website, brighamandwomens.org
