RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey school district says it will no longer allow private businesses to deliver lunches to students.

The Record reports that Ridgewood Superintendent Daniel Fishbein announced the policy change Monday, saying the deliveries will cease at all schools after Friday. He suggested parents make lunches at home or buy cafeteria meals for their children.

In a letter to parents, Fishbein said the constant deliveries were a "disruption" that also posed safety concerns.

Fishbein said the deliveries are made by "strangers" who are buzzed into school buildings with little vetting, and added that delivery drivers have been parking illegally on school property.

He also noted that the lunches often pile up at schools, causing clutter and confusion that often preoccupies staff members.
