YARMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 39-year-old man is accused of trying to rob an elderly woman at a South Yarmouth ATM.
Jason M. Eldridge was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony armed assault with intent to rob a person over 60 and two counts of felony assault and battery on a person over 60 in the Dec. 6 incident.
Yarmouth police say an elderly woman was inside a Bank of America ATM on Route 28 when the suspect entered behind her and demanded she withdraw $500 or she would be stabbed. The woman hit the cancel key at the ATM, refused to give the suspect the money and left the vestibule while screaming for help.
The suspect also fled the ATM and headed north on Station Avenue. A K9 patrol officer tracked the suspect for a while before losing the scent due to heavy rain.
