BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Sources tell FOX 25 that William Gross will be appointed superintendent-in-chief of the Boston Police Department.

Officials say Gross, who is currently the night commander, has been on the force for 30 years and has a strong background in youth violence prevention. Gross will be the first African American superintendent-in-chief at the Boston Police Department.

The appointment will make Gross second in charge to soon-to-be commissioner William Evans, who will be officially promoted to his position Thursday by Mayor Marty Walsh.

Gross will replace current Superintendent-in-Chief Dan Linskey. There is no word on what his future plans might be.
