Magnitude 1.9 earthquake recorded in New Bedford

Posted: Updated:

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Weston Observatory confirms a magnitude 1.9 earthquake was recorded shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday in New Bedford.

The observatory told FOX 25 the earthquake was too small to cause and damage, however residents could hear a loud boom.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey's website, earthquakes with that register a 2.0 or less on the Richter scale are typically called "microearthquakes" because they are generally recorded only on local seismographs and not felt by people.
