Freezing rain causes deadly road conditions

Posted: Updated:
At least two deaths are being blamed on icy roads caused by freezing rain and frigid temperatures on Friday.

New Jersey Transit says the driver of a car was killed and a passenger was seriously injured when the vehicle crashed into a bus in Pine Hill. None of the injuries to the passengers on the bus are considered serious.

The Asbury Park Press reports police are investigating a multi-car pile-up on the Beaver Dam bridge between Brick Township and Point Pleasant that killed a person.

New Jersey State Police in south Jersey responded to more than 250 calls from motorists during a four-hour period.

Many students were delayed getting to school.

The National Weather Service extended a freezing rain advisory until temperatures warm above freezing.

The freezing rain was expected to change mainly to all rain along the Interstate 95 corridor and eastern and central New Jersey.

Motorists are urged to use caution.
