Michigan's Nussmeier talks philosophy during welcome ceremony in Ann Arbor

(WJBK) -

Michigan welcomed new offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier Friday in Ann Arbor. When he stepped to the podium to be introduced one of the first questions he answered was about his philosophy.

"We're going to be physical; we want to play fast; we want to be explosive. ... We want to control the tempo of the game on offense and give our guys an opportunity to make plays and schematically look at ways that we can create competitive advantages for our players. So, what that means is, you could see us in one formation one week running one play and a different the next week," Nussmeier said.

"Developing quarterbacks, developing young talent as an offense, is something that he has done and proven, and we are a team that is young in a lot of ways but we're getting older and we're getting better every day," says Brady Hoke, Michigan head coach.

Athletic Director Dave Brandon says he didn't pressure Hoke into making this decision although they agreed something needed to be done. When asked whether this was the move of a coach sitting on the hot seat, Brandon had this so say: "This has nothing to do with Brady keeping the job. It's Brady's job. Brady is the coach of the University of Michigan football team. He was National Coach of the Year his first year here. None of us are happy, and that parade is led by Brady Hoke with this last season."

"We took this job three years ago to make Michigan better. And we took this job knowing that every decision that's going to be made by me is going to be made what's best for Michigan. ... This change, I think, is going to be one that we're all going to benefit from,"
