Inmate dies in central Ga.; no signs of foul play

Posted: Updated:

MACON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities investigating the death of a Bibb County inmate say he appears to have died of natural causes.

Bibb County sheriff's officials say the 34-year-old inmate died in his cell about 4 p.m. Friday. His name wasn't immediately released as relatives were still being notified.

The Telegraph reports that inmates were in their cells awaiting evening meals when the man appeared to be asleep, but was unresponsive when staff members tried to wake him.

Investigators said there were no obvious signs of foul play.

Bibb County sheriff's Lt. Sean DeFoe says the death appeared to be a result of natural causes. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
