Boston police: Home invasion suspect fatally shot by homeowner

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Boston police say a home invasion suspect was fatally shot by another person on the front stoop of a residence in Dorchester Wednesday morning.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans told reporters two armed suspects donning masks entered an apartment at 85 Esmond St. at about 9:30 a.m.

Police allege someone who may be a resident shot one suspect on the front stoop. The suspect died from their injuries. Police are still investigating whether the shooter was in fact a resident of the building.

The second suspect was arrested by police down the street after fleeing the scene. Officials say the suspect had a firearm on them at the time of their arrest.

Evans said the shooter was also taken into custody as police work to determine if his actions were justified. Investigators also planned to check the shooter's gun permit.

A white Toyota Avalon was towed from the scene.

Residents in the area thought that the neighborhood was improving, and were disappointed to hear this news.

"In the five years I've been here, it's just been neighbor helping neighbor, you know trying to clean up the community to keep your neighborhood safe," one resident said. "I've got grand kids and kids out here."

The investigation remains ongoing.
