HOLYOKE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A school bus was shot at in Holyoke in what police are referring to as a possible gang related incident.

Holyoke Police responded to a call for shots fired Wednesday around 4:08 p.m. at the intersection of Elm and Appleton Streets; they were told a school bus may have been involved.

Upon arrival, police found a school bus with 10 children from the Holyoke Community Charter School on board. The children were ages six to 13, officials say. No injuries were reported, but police located nine, 9mm spent casings in the area of 174 Elm St. Two rounds struck the back of the school bus as it crossed Appleton Street. The bullets did not penetrate the bus and police do not believe that the bus was targeted. They do believe the shots fired were part of a gang related incident.

Witnesses reported that a car left the area at a high rate of speed. They were also able to provide a license plate number and the description of a possible suspect. Witnesses say the suspect is a Hispanic male with facial hair who was wearing a gray hoodie and driving a silver car. They say he was shooting at a car in front of him.

The investigation remains ongoing and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Holyoke Police Criminal Investigations Bureau at 413-322-6940.
