Attleboro man charged with threatening shooting spree at school wants case dismissed

Posted: Updated:

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 20-year-old charged with threatening to go on a shooting spree at Attleboro High School in 2012 wants his case dismissed.

Natick Sands of Attleboro has pleaded innocent to threatening an attack on the school, interrupting a school assembly and threatening a police officer, according to The Sun Chronicle. Sands' lawyer argued Friday that the case should be dismissed because police lacked probable cause to arrest his client.

The charges have already been reduced and are related to alleged conversations between Sands and other people on Facebook, which occurred in 2012, the Chronicle reported. Sand's lawyer refers to the alleged exchanges as "flippant conversations on Facebook." However, students read the alleged conversations and told police, which lead to Sands' arrest.

Ryan Ringuette, co-defendant, also of Attleboro pleaded guilty in 2012. The 21-year-old was given a suspended jail sentence with probation.

The defense motion will be considered by the judge and Sands' case was continued to March 14.
