Vigil held for Franklin siblings who died in hope chest

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A vigil was held in Franklin Friday night for the two siblings who died in a hope chest Monday.

The vigil was held on the town green and hundreds of people attended, including the family of Sean and Lexi Munroe, who lost their lives too soon.

Sean, 7, and Lexi, 8, were found in a hope chest in the family's home on Chestnut Street Monday. They were playing hide and seek and did not know that the chest couldn't be opened from the inside. A television was playing loudly near the chest, at the time. A parent was home, but didn't realize until the other parent arrived home that two of their five children were missing.

It is a story that has touched so many parents all over the country, but especially in Franklin. That is why two mothers decided to organize the vigil. They say they wanted to show the Munroe family that everyone in this town is supporting them during this difficult time, and they're hoping this will be the start of the healing process for a lot of people in the community.

Organizer Christine Cossette said, "It's going to be a wonderful night to celebrate Sean and Lexi."

The vigil included prayers from all of the local clergymen and a song was performed by a student at the local performing arts school. Balloons were released into the night sky to remember the Munroe children.

"They're the best family, the best parents you can even ask for so for this to happen is very very hard," a family friend said at the vigil.

The services for Sean and Lexi will be held Sunday and Monday.
