PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Parents of students at a school in Rhode Island were given notice about a bizarre Smarties snorting trend among children.
The warning came after 15 students at a New York middle school were caught crushing and sniffing the candy. Videos of the trend have also begun to crop up on YouTube.
Health officials say snorting the sugary candy can lead to health problems such as infections and maggots inside of nasal cavities.
Parents are urged to talk to their children about the trend.
