More frigid air making its way into southeast Michigan

Posted: Updated:

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- Another round of frigid air is making its way into Michigan, leaving roads slippery as dangerously cold temperatures are expected in places this week.

In suburban Detroit, state police reported multiple crashes on the freeway system, including two fatal crashes. One happened around 6:30 a.m. on I-75 North near Sashabaw in Clarkston, according to the Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw. The other occurred at I-94 and Masonic in Roseville.

In the Upper Peninsula community of Sault Ste. Marie, it's 5 degrees below zero on Monday morning.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for much of the state, with wind chill readings of 10 to 20 degrees below expected late Monday and early Tuesday in southeast Michigan.

Weather Authority Alan Longstreet says flurries are expected through Tuesday. An inch of accumulation is expected for Wednesday.

Heavy lake-effect snow is possible in the far southwestern corner of the state along Lake Michigan, with a foot or so possible. More than a foot of lake-effect snow is forecast along Lake Superior in parts of the Upper Peninsula.
