Body part pulled out of Charles may be a head, related to burned body case

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A law enforcement source indicates that the body part pulled out of the Charles River on Friday morning was a human head.

It would appear that cops got a tip and police divers knew where to look. Investigators suspect the head belonged to Dennis Ray Jackson.

As we first reported, Dennis Ray Jackson Jr. was a 24-year-old father of three from the north shore. Investigators believe someone murdered Jackson, dismembered the body, and then discarded the remains in multiple locations.

In late November, limbs were found burning in a barrel on the grounds of Bridgewater State Psychiatric Hospital. Hours later and 30 miles away, a smoldering torso was found outside of an industrial building in Hyde Park.

Jackson was last known to be living at a beach house in Salisbury. More than a month ago investigators scoured the waterfront home to see if the gruesome crime  may have occurred there.

At the time, the home was rented by an ex-con and aspiring rapper named Reggie Cummings. Cummings was friends with Jackson. He fled to Mexico after Jackson was killed, and authorities have described him as a person of interest in this case.

Cummings is back in Massachusetts, in jail on unrelated charges. No arrests have been made in the Jackson murder yet.

We asked a spokesperson for the Essex County DA's office about any new developments. She told us she was unable to provide details about an on-going investigation.
