Ill. hospital visitors limited because of flu

Posted: Updated:

URBANA, Ill. (AP) - Some Illinois hospitals are barring sick visitors or regulating their visits to limit the spread of flu.

The Champaign News-Gazette reports that hospitals in Urbana and Hoopeston imposed new rules, joining another Urbana hospital and one in Danville.

They've adopted guidelines for visitors and urge those who are sick to stay home or wear a mask.

The Bloomington Pantagraph reports that Illinois Department of Public Health statistics indicate that 450 people have been admitted to intensive care units with flu this season. Thirty-seven have died.

The paper reports hospitals in Lincoln and Gibson City have strictly limited visits to combat the spread of flu. Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln is prohibiting visitors who are ill and children under 18 years of age.
