Just discovered in South Africa a little surprise inside a new statue of Nelson Mandela: a sculpted rabbit in the leader's ear!
The sculptors reportedly put it there because the South African government wouldn't let them sign their names around the base of the thirty-foot statue.
Now, the government's angry.
"We are insisting that the Madiba statue has to have its integrity restored. And that might include (the) removal of the rabbit. Those discussions are ongoing, but we would want as soon as possible that the statue is restored to its original face without causing any structural, or whatever, damage to the statue. So we are, as the department, insisting that we would want people to see Madiba through the statue for what he stood for and not some prank, which is really a public stunt," says Spokesman of South African Arts and Culture Department, Mogomotsi Mogodiri.
The manager of the statue site says the sculptors might be allowed to add their names to the heel of Mandela's shoe.
Rain arrives for the second half of the work week. Another fall-like blast of cool weather to follow for the weekend.
Scattered showers are possible tonight as a cold front approaches the area. Otherwise, the best chance for rain will be Thursday afternoon and night where we'll see on and off showers and thunderstorms.
Clouds and showers linger though much of Friday. We may still see a passing shower Saturday. Unseasonably cool air returns this weekend where both days only see high temps in the mid 70s with many of us falling into the 50s at night.
