Lawmakers Consider Preventing ALL Marriages In Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

Lawmakers in Oklahoma are toying with the notion of throwing out "marriage" in the state!

The effort is said to be due to keep same-sex marriage illegal in the state. Critics are calling the motion a political stunt while supporters argue it's what the citizens of the state want.

They are going as far as saying they want to strike down the states same sex marriage ban…even if it means no marriage at all.

"They're willing to have that discussion about whether marriage needs to be regulated by the state at all," says State Representative Mike Turner.

It must be unrealistic to say ‘we're not going to do marriage period' right?

"That would definitely be a realistic opportunity and that's something that would be part of the discussion," Turner explains.

"I think that, especially with issues like this, they're out of touch with most Oklahomans," Oklahoma's ACLU, Ryan Kiesel

Five years from now we are going to look back at legislative efforts like this as inconsistent with the right side of history," he continues.

"Moving forward I think we'll see less efforts like this," believes Kiesel.

The battle over Oklahoma's ban on same-sex marriage is set to make it's way to the tenth circuit court of appeals in Denver.
