NH firefighters rescue moose from water

Posted: Updated:

WARNER, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- During the winter, firefighters in many New England towns are prepared to rescue a dog from the water when the ice gets thin.

But over the weekend, some New Hampshire rescuers faced saving another, much bigger animal.

On Sunday, firefighters in Warner, N.H., rescued a moose that had gotten trapped in the water. The moose was walking across the Warner River, when the ice beneath it gave way.

According to the Union Leader, the moose had been in the water for an extended period of time, during which temperatures outside were close to zero degrees.

Firefighters and a New Hampshire Fish and Game officer were able to get the animal to the river bank in about 20 minutes.
