Worcester residents told to remain alert after reported abduction attempt

Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Worcester police are increasing patrols during school hours after a reported attempted abduction.

Police say a 14-year-old girl was nearly abducted while waiting for the school bus near May and Hollywood streets Monday morning. She told police two men approached her and demanded that she get inside their van.

The girl told police when she refused to get into the van, the men showed her a dog inside the vehicle. She fled the area.

Police have been unable to locate the suspects or their van. They say there is limited information about the suspects at this time. Both men are described as being white. One of them is believed to be about 6' tall with a thin build.

The men were in what has been described as a "white, box type utility van."

Worcester police confirmed Tuesday that they impounded a white van, but did not confirm whether or not it was connected to the attempted abduction. Police also confirmed they were questioning a female about the attempted abduction report.

Children and parents are urged to remain aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call 508-799-8651. Tips can be made anonymously by texting 274637 TIPWPD with your message or by sending a web based message at worcesterma.gov/police.
