Police are searching for a man who is suspected of robbing a Northeast Philadelphia CVS. Police say he's suspected of stealing batteries and striking an employee on his way out.
The incident happened at the CVS on the 6500 block of Harbison Avenue. The employee said that the suspect was walking around the store from aisle to aisle before he picked up batteries and tried to just walk out the door.
Police say that the clerk saw the attempted shoplifting and stood outside the door, waiting to stop the man from getting away with the crime. A very brave act, but the suspect's reaction was beyond what the employee anticipated; he hit the clerk, police say, and then fled the area in his gray SUV.
Surveillance shows the man wandering the store, casually looking for items and talking on the phone, like most routine shopping outings.
The surveillance then shows the man hurrying out the door, no longer on his phone. Surveillance does not depict the suspect attacking the clerk because the clerk was waiting outside of the store, out of the tapes' range.
The suspect is described as a white male, 6'6, 30 years old, wearing a gray pull-over hoodie, black pants, gray sneakers. He was also driving a gray SUV, according to police.
If you have any information about the crime, police urge contact to Northeast Detective Division at 215-686-3153 or 215-686-TIPS(8477).
NICE EASTER WEEKEND
The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.
Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon. High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.
It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s. Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
