Realtors share their list of 25 hottest towns in Massachusetts for 2013

McGeough and Lamacchia Realty has broken down the top spots in Massachusetts where home sales soared in 2013.

The realtors used data compiled by The Warren Group to compare home sales between 2013 and 2012.  

To make the cut, the communities had to have a minimum of 25 home sales per year.

Here is their list of the 25 most popular towns in Massachusetts Real Estate for 2013:


1.    Barre
-    59 home sales in 2013
-    Increase of 59-percent compared to 2012
-    Median price for a home: $165,000
-    Population: 5,398 – 6-percent increase since 2000

2.    Boxborough
-    99 home sales in 2013
-    Increase of 55-percent compared to 2012
-    Median home price: $385,000 (46-percent rise in price)
-    Population: 4,996 – 3-percent increase since 2000

3.    Rochester
-    64 home sales in 2013
-    Increase of 49-percent compared to 2012
-    Median price: $315,000
-    Population: 5,232 – 14-percent increase since 2000

4.    Boxford

-    125 home sales in 2013
-    Increase of 47-percent compared to 2012
-    Median price: $535,000 (16-percent rise in price)
-    Population: 7,965

5.    Holden
-    304 homes sold in 2013
-    Increase of 47-percent compared to 2012
-    Median price: $244,500 (13-percent increase in price)
-    Population: 17,346 (11-percent increase since 2000)

6.    West Tisbury
-    36 home sales in 2013
-    Increase of 44-percent compared to 2012
-    Median price: $600,000
-    Population: 2,740 (11-percent increase from 2000)

7.    Pepperell

-    152 home sales in 2013
-    Increase of 41-percent compared to 2012
-    Median price: $275,000
-    Population: 11,497 (3-pecent increase since 2000)

8.    Hadley
-    54 homes sold in 2013
-    38-percent increase from 2012
-    Median price: $317,500 (4-percent increase)
-    Population: 5,250 (10-percent increase since 2000)

9.    West Boylston

-    110 homes sold in 2013
-    38-percent increase compared to 2012
-    Median price: $244,500 (8-percent increase from 2012)
-    Population: 7,669 (3-percent increase from 2000)

10.    Westhampton
-    26 homes sold in 2013
-    37-percent increase compared to 2012
-    Median price: $296,000 (price increase of 29-percent from 2012)
-    Population: 1,607

11.    Princeton

-    36-percent increase from 2012
-    Median price: $293,000

12.    Wenham
