Mayor Reed outlines changes in future storm response

ATLANTA -

Mayor Kasim Reed addressed changes that will take place to ensure the city of Atlanta is not paralyzed by a winter weather storm again.

The mayor spoke to the Atlanta Press Club during a luncheon at Capital City Club on Friday. In addition to outlining his vision for future storms, he promised to assemble a task force for a comprehensive review of how the city in responding to this past week's winter weather.

Mayor Reed said he plans to hire an emergency management executive to oversee that the city is in best practices for future storms and will team with Atlanta-based The Weather Channel to make the city "Storm Ready."

In addition, he will be looking at the dismissal protocol for both government agencies and private industry inside the city.

Reed said he plans to ask the city council to purchase more equipment and material to increase the city's ability to pretreatment and deice roadways.

Mayor Reed came under fire this week for the city's response to the winter weather system that moved through on Tuesday.
