TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews will leave Congress within weeks after 23 years in office.

The word comes from a person with direct knowledge of the New Jersey Democrat's plans. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because Andrews has not announced it.

Andrews has called an 11:30 a.m. news conference at his Haddon Heights office.

The 56-year-old was first elected to Congress to represent a district outside Philadelphia in 1990. He intends to join a law firm with offices in Washington.

A congressional ethics committee has been looking into Andrews' campaign spending after reports more than two years ago that he was using campaign funds for trips to California, where his daughter had a fledgling singing and acting career.
