Former Teacher Andrea Cardosa Arrested

Posted: Updated:

40-year-old Andrea Cardosa was arrested early Monday evening in Perris by a Riverside County Sheriffs Department warrant team according to the DA's office.

Cardosa, a former teacher and school administrator, was charged with 16 counts of sexual acts on two girls who are now both adults.

All of this was brought to light by a YouTube video that shows a woman the DA's Office calls Jane Doe #1 confronting a another woman on the phone said to be her former teacher. JD #1, who identified herself at a news conference as "Jamie" alleges the woman molested her over a period from 1997 to 2001.

A few days after the video was posted another woman identified by her attorney as "Briana" made an allegation she was sexually abused as a student by the same teacher. The Riverside Co. DA's Office calls her Jane Doe #2.

Her attorney says if it hadn't been for the YouTube video JD #2's case would not have come to light. The attorney, Luis Carrillo, says his client is glad the former teacher is in custody and "relieved something is happening."

When it comes to audio or recording California is a two party state. That means both people in a recording have to know they are being recorded. The Riverside Co. DA's Office admits Cardosa did not know that was happening. DA's spokesman John Hall told me the judge ultimately will decide if the video is admissible. Attorney Carrillo says, even if it's not, Cardosa made admissions that can used in a court of law.

Andrea Cardosa is being held on 5 million dollars bail. Her arraignment is expected to be Thursday.
