Attorneys for former Hernandez pal say their client was 'targeted'

Posted: Updated:

HARTFORD, Conn. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A former associate of Aaron Hernandez was held on $1 million cash bond Tuesday amid allegations that he shot up the front of a Hartford bar Sunday night.

Officials say Alexander Bradley got into a fight with another person over money inside a bar called Vevo. Bradley was shot during the altercation. Afterwards, police said he went to his car, got a gun and began shooting at the front of the club, 11 rounds in all.

In court Tuesday, defense attorneys for Bradley said he was "targeted" by a total stranger who came up to him, punched him in the face, and shot him in the leg because he is "high profile."

Lawyers noted that Bradley had prior arrests on his record for drug sales and robbery.

Bradley stayed overnight at Hartford Hospital after sustaining three gunshot wounds to the thigh. He was arraigned on a number of charges, from criminal use of a firearm to stealing a firearm.

Prosecutors allege the gun Bradley used was one of 111 guns that had been stolen out of a Smith & Wesson delivery in Springfield.

Investigators say it is unclear who shot Bradley and whether or not the incident was connected to the Hernandez case. Hartford police are looking for information on the identity of the person who shot him.
