CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (Associated Press) -

Suburban Chicago hockey coach Kenny McCudden will participate in the Sochi Olympics.

The Crystal Lake resident is the skating and skills coach for the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team. He tells the Daily Herald that he's honored and privileged to be going to Russia for this month's Olympic games.

McCudden says he's spent the last 2 1/2 years traveling around the U.S. helping the team. He says he's participated in camps and skills sessions with the players.

McCudden also is skating and skills coach for the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves. He's been working at coaching and teaching hockey skills since the late 1980s.

McCudden says U.S. women's hockey team members are "at the top of their game." He lauded their passing and shooting skills.
