ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Three waitresses at an Illinois restaurant say they could only stare in disbelief when a woman over the weekend handed them each a $5,000 check.
The day at the Boone County Family Restaurant started like any other day for Amber Kariolich, Amy Sabini and Sarah Seckinger.
One woman asked for their names then began jotting something down.
When she was done, she presented each of the girls with a check for $5,000! The women say they were shocked and extremely grateful.
"We're still a little shaky it from it all," Sabani said.
"I wasn't even waiting on her. I was just rolling silverware. We were talking about school and braces and loans and everything we can't afford. And she just took it upon herself," Seckinger said.
"It means a lot. Well, we all want to go back to school. Everybody has bills and what not so it means a lot," Kariolich said.
Amy says she works two jobs and has a little boy at home so she's hoping to spend more time with him.
"I hope that one day I have the amount to do the same thing to somebody else," she said.
Seckinger says a last semester to earn her associate degree in criminal justice was too expensive, but she will now return to school.
The generous woman has chosen to remain anonymous.
State police say one trooper is dead and another is injured after a shooting at a state police barracks in northeastern Pennsylvania.
