CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

With the Chicago Auto Show gearing up to start Saturday, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority may find itself in one tough pickle.

The MPEA, which owns the space where the Chicago Auto Show takes place, is being sued two years after one of its food and service providers failed to pickup a pickle, causing a woman to slip and injure her right knee, according to a lawsuit filed in the Cook County Circuit Court Friday.

According to the lawsuit, the pickle "created an unreasonable hazard" and caused the worker to slip, injuring her right knee.

Tara Chadwick, who injured her knee, was working at the event on Feb. 17, 2012 for Hinsdale-based S.B. Yen Management to see if any exhibitors were looking for hotel arrangements in the Chicago area, the lawsuit said.

Since the injury, Chadwick's employer has been paying her under the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act, saying the worker is complaining of physical impairment and pain, the suit said. The suit also indicates that medical costs have arisen as a result of the slip and fall.

Philadelphia-based Aramark Corp., which is also listed in the suit, was in charge of cleaning and providing food services during the Chicago Auto Show on Feb. 17, 2012. Aramark failed to provide reasonable care by not picking up the pickle, causing Chadwick to slip and injure her knee, the suit said.

The pickle was left unattended on the floor near an area where tickets were being sold to the public, the suit said.

While the suit lists Aramark as a defendant, S.B. Yen Management is seeking damages of more than $50,000 from the MPEA, according to the lawsuit.

Calls to the MPEA and Aramark were not immediately returned.
