Surfers Healing

Posted: Updated:

Raising a child with autism can be challenging. Izzy Paskowitz knows that first-hand. He has a 22-year-old autistic son named Isaiah who has a difficult time dealing with daily life.

But when Izzy takes Isaiah surfing, he is suddenly at peace and happy.

That's the reason Paskowitz started Surfers Healing 16 years ago. Since then, Paskowitz has been offering free surfing camps for autistic kids.  His organization has several surfer volunteers helping out. They do up to 24 camps a year serving as many as 200 kids per camp throughout the country.  If you would like to find out more on Izzy and his mission, go to his website at: http://www.surfershealing.org

And If you know people like Izzy making a difference in the community, let Gina know. Every Monday, she does a story recognizing  those silent heroes in the community.

Gina's People: We want to hear from you!

Gina has seen her share of people throughout Southern California – real characters with real stories many making a difference each day with little to no recognition. These are Gina's People, hometown heroes who quietly go about making Southern California and the world a better place for all of us.

If you know a person or a group who deserves some recognition, please fill out this form which goes directly to Gina.

Help her tell the stories of the people and groups who make a big difference each day.

Baby Scarlette Tipton was born five months ago with an abnormally large, left arm. It measures approximately three times the size of her right arm. Doctors say this is an extremely rare condition. Doctors have given Scarlette's parents different diagnosis, the latest is Undifferentiated Sarcoma, a very rare childhood cancer.
