GOP's Baker calls for DCF commissioner to resign

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - Republican candidate for governor Charlie Baker is calling for the resignation of Department of Children and Families Commissioner Olga Roche, citing the need for a top to bottom review of the state's child welfare agency.

The department has been under scrutiny since social workers lost track of a 5-year-old Fitchburg boy who is missing and feared dead.

Baker, the 2010 GOP gubernatorial nominee, also said in an interview that Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley should settle a 2010 lawsuit filed by a child advocacy group that alleged the state placed foster children in unstable and sometimes dangerous situations.

Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick and other administration officials have stood by Roche. Patrick asked the Child Welfare League of America for an independent review of the agency.
