Illinois to open Mexico trade office on Near West Side

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois officials are opening a Chicago office aimed at helping Mexican Americans with social and civil services as Mexican leaders visit Illinois.

Gov. Pat Quinn announced Monday that the center - which will be called a "casa" - will be located on the near West Side.

Gov. Eruviel Ávila of the State of Mexico is in Illinois this week with other leaders. He and Quinn met last year when Quinn was in Mexico on a trade mission.

The casa will help serve as a liaison with state authorities.

The visit to Illinois will include a stop at Springfield's Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and a reception at the Governor's Mansion.

The orchestra of the State of Mexico will play a free concert at a Chicago school Monday.
