Police: Man arrested after driving at officers in NH

Posted: Updated:

SALEM, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Most people try to avoid conflict with police, but one man drove at it head on Monday night, according to police.

Officers responded to a call on South Policy in Salem, N.H. just after 7 p.m. Monday about an intoxicated person knocking on a resident's door asking for directions. After getting directions, the man drove away, and the resident said he noticed a child in the truck.

Police found the suspect on a nearby dead-end street, Muse Terrace. They said the man quickly drove away, made a U-turn and pointed his truck at officers. He then began revving his engine, and drove directly at the two officers.

The man escaped, but officers were able to identify the white Chevrolet Silverado, which had Massachusetts license plates, as belonging to a woman in Lowell. At 8:30 p.m., Lowell police arrested the woman's boyfriend, David Babcock.

He was held in Massachusetts until he could be taken back to New Hampshire, where he will be charged with first degree assault, attempted first degree assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

One officer sustained a minor leg injury after jumping onto the hood of a police cruiser to avoid being hit. The officer has since been released from the hospital.
