Warrant issue for man wanted for Purple Heart theft

Posted: Updated:

LEICESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for a man who police say is connected to a January armed home invasion, when three people were bound and gagged at gunpoint, and a Purple Heart was among the items stolen.

The home invasion happened Sunday night around 10 p.m. in a home on a side street off Route 9. According to initial reports, two men, one of whom had a gun, entered a home and tied three people up, taping their mouths shut with duct-tape.

Police are searching for 36-year-old Timothy M. Lavin, whose last known address was 11 Hyland Ave. in Leicester. When officers executed an earlier search warrant for Lavin's home, they found jewelry stolen during the home invasion, but did not find the Purple Heart that belonged to the victim's father.

The search warrant contains 11 charges against Lavin, who has not been seen since the morning police executed the search warrant at his home. The charges include home invasion, armed robbery while masked with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, larceny over $250, and drug possession.

Anyone who has information on where Lavin may be should call the Leicester Police Department at (508) 892-7010.
