Medford man accused of assaulting Arlington child held on $1 million bail

ARLINGTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Medford man was held on $1 million cash bail amid allegations that he assaulted an Arlington child walking home from school.

Patrick Barry, 21, of Medford, was arraigned Friday for his alleged connection to an incident that took place near Summer Street in Arlington Tuesday.

The victim told police a man came up from behind and touched them inappropriately. The victim provided a description and an artist was able to compose a sketch of the suspect.

A probation officer notified police that a man who was already on probation and subject to GPS monitoring fit the description. Using the GPS log, police found that the suspect was in the exact location where the assault took place at the time it was reported.

Police later arrested Barry on charges of indecent assault and battery on a child over 14 years of age. He may face additional charges, as well as probation violations.

Barry's bail was revoked on open court cases out of Suffolk County. He is due back in court for a pre-trial hearing on March 13.

"This is a fine example of teamwork leading to an arrest and some closure for our community. A dangerous offender is off the streets today," Chief Frederick Ryan said Thursday. "The people of Arlington will not tolerate attacks on children, and the Arlington Police department will continue to be extremely aggressive in pursuing anyone who thinks they can get away with assaulting a child."

This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Arlington Police at 781-643-1212.
