Man arrested in Detroit teen's bus stabbing released

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - A man arrested following the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy on a Detroit public bus has been released from jail.

Detroit police say Friday that the man was released after detectives determined he was not the suspect wanted in connection with Wednesday's stabbing.

Police say the boy tried to intervene as two riders argued on the bus. Police told a Detroit television station that the teen was defending himself and punched one of the men in the nose before the stabbing.

The boy ran from the bus and called 911. He later pointed out a suspect in a police photo lineup.

Officers arrested the man. He was let go after questioning at the Detroit Detention Center.

The man responsible for the stabbing still is being sought.
