Valentine's Day serenades from Ruben Studdard

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Cynthia smith was set to go on maternity leave. So for Valentine's Day, her staff decided she should be serenaded by none other than former American Idol star Ruben Studdard. It was part of a Valentine's Day promotion by SmartCar called "Smart Crooners."

Tweeting @smartcarusa with the hashtag "smartcrooners" landed some lucky ones a serenade from either Studdard or fellow R&B singer Case.

"This is really amazing. I'm glad that I've been with an opportunity to do a job every day that brings smiles to people's faces," Studdard said. "I've never wanted to do anything else in my life."

"I was a little suspect when the team started saying we have to run downstairs right now," Cynthia said. "Yeah it's exciting. Very cool."

Eric Kanner saw the promo on twitter and organized Cynthia's surprise.

"And what better way to send her off than to get her sung to by Ruben Studdard," he said.

The tweets kept Studdard busy for most of the day singing from his brand new album.

In some cases you can't get a major celebrity to sing, you have to settle for one of your Z-list celebrities and this is where I come in. I sang to Courtney.
