Train strikes car in Webster

Posted: Updated:

WEBSTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Some roads were closed in Webster Thursday morning as police worked to clean up a crash between a car and a train.

The crash happened at the railroad crossing on Main Street. The driver, Reed Rosenburg, 53, of Phoenix, Arizona was driving a rental car on Main Street looking for the Matte's Hardware parking lot. He made a turn while following his GPS, but missed the entrance to the lot and ended up on the tracks instead. He attempted to move, but couldn't, officials say, as the railroad bed was not plowed.

He tried to stop the train when he saw it coming, but the train was unable to stop. The train hit the car and pushed it until it stopped at Store 24.

Massachusetts State Police tweeted a picture of the scene, and stated that troopers from the Sturbridge barracks were helping direct traffic around the area. The street was reopened just before noon.

At around 11:30 a.m., crews were clearing the car, which had significant front-end damage, from the scene.

No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
