Fulton County deputy suspected of running illegal nightclub

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A Fulton County Sheriff's deputy was arrested in early February on allegations of running an establishment without a license and selling alcohol without a permit in SW Atlanta.

Members of the Atlanta Police Department's License and Permits Unit discovered the establishment on February 8 while conducting a routine check of businesses on Metropolitan Parkway.

According to a report from Atlanta Police, the operator of the establishment was later identified as Devon Willis Brown, an active employee with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office. The report says Brown's identity was confirmed because he had his badge and deputy identification card, on his person, at the time of his arrest.

The establishment had been operating as an "after hours" club – although Brown claimed the establishment was a private social club for members only.

The report alleges patrons at this location had access to "completely nude females," "a private VIP room," and food and drinks.

In the report, officers say they observed "several cars parked out front" and they smelled "the odor of marijuana" when they walked into the establishment. Officers also observed a number of completely naked women running into a back room, a male and a female "actively involved" in sexual intercourse in a private VIP room and about 15-20 patrons consuming alcohol.

During the inspection, an investigator with Atlanta Police found several nude women in a back room "performing adult entertainment" and several "used condoms and condom packets" on the floor of the room. Officers also observed a coin-operated billiard table and a man cooking for patrons, inside the establishment.

When authorities asked Brown to produce documents to verify the legitimacy of his business he could not produce a business license, a charter, an alcohol license, an adult entertainment license or a food service permit. And the amusement permit, once held by the establishment, expired in 2011.

Brown was arrested and transported to the Atlanta Pre-Trial Detention Center and charged with "Selling Alcohol Without a License" and other charges.
