Sturbridge Fire Department now uses pet resuscitation kits

Posted: Updated:

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The Sturbridge Fire Department is now able to deliver the same lifesaving efforts to pets as humans.

The fire department has placed pet resuscitation kits on two of their fire engines, officials say. The department now has the ability to save four-legged customers that suffer from smoke inhalation after a fire.

The Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association of Marlboro has generously donated two pet resuscitation kits to the department and they are expecting another one from a private citizen.

The kits consists of three different size masks for animals, which allows the firefighters to attempt to resuscitate or oxygenate both dogs and cats that have inhaled too much smoke during a fire. The masks work just like human masks, but are smaller.
