ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) -

A member of the US Air Force makes it home in the nick of time for his most important mission -- he's a new dad. And it was quite a journey to make it from the desert of the Middle East back to Metro Detroit.

He calls her the prettiest thing he's ever seen and Senior Airman Brian Zoren came in for a landing just in time for her arrival. Baby Luna, weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces, was born one week past her due date. It's almost like she waited while her dad caught flight after flight across the globe to be there.

"I lost 3 hours going from the Middle East to Germany and then I lost six more going from Germany to Maryland," said Zorn. "Then finally I was in my normal time zone but I was on night shifts over there and now I don't know what day it is."

All that matters now is that he made it but it was pretty touch and go. When Brian got to Germany he learned his flight to California was delayed meaning he'd miss a connecting flight in Dallas. Still, the jet lagged but determined dad managed to get his flight switched to Maryland instead.

"I pulled the pregnant dad card wherever I went," he said.

From Maryland it was onto Detroit. But, back at home, things were suddenly happening fast. His wife Larissa's water broke just as they were heading out to meet Brian at the airport.

"We had signs ready and everything to go pick him up and we were on our way to go get him but I had to go to the hospital instead," she said.

The whole family sprung into action at is was operation "get dad to the delivery room in time." And it worked like a charm!

"My mom picked me up and drove me to the hospital and his dad went to the airport to pick him up and then drove him straight from the airport to the hospital," she said.

The effort was well worth it. No one's had any sleep, but these proud parents could not be happier!
