CANTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Canton police had the unpleasant task of recovering what they claim to be packets full of cocaine swallowed by an accused drug dealer.
Detectives were conducting a narcotics investigation at about 5 p.m. Friday in the area of Rockland and Washington streets when they moved in on a suspected drug dealer. They claim the suspect, identified as Julio Angel Rivera, 45, of Roxbury, began to swallow multiple small baggies that appeared to hold cocaine as they attempted to make an arrest.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the narcotics they allege were inside the bags Rivera ingested. The 45-year-old was transported to Norwood Hospital due to the potentially lethal doses of cocaine in his system. While Rivera was in the Intensive Care Unit, detectives recovered the evidence "after its journey through the digestive process."
Rivera was expected to be arraigned at Norwood Hospital Monday on charges of possession with intent to distribute a class B narcotic and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
