3 sentenced for robbing potential cell phone buyer

Posted: Updated:

ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - Three northern New Jersey men who robbed another man at gunpoint last year after he declined to buy a cell phone from them have been sentenced to state prison terms.

Union County prosecutors say 19-year-old Denroy Dunkley and 20-year-old Ridgy Vincent, both of Union Township, and Lamont James, a 20-year-old Georgia resident, all received seven-year sentences on Friday.

The robbery occurred in February 2013 when the victim contacted the three defendants online and offered to buy the phone. The men then met with the victim in a car parked on a Union Township street.

When the victim decided against buying the phone, James pulled out a handgun, pointed it at him and demanded money. After getting about $400, the bandits fled the area but were captured a short time later.
