Another water main break in Detroit creates icy mess for drivers

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Driving around one Detroit neighborhood is slow, if you can go anywhere at all. Another water main break is causing an icy mess for drivers on the city's west side.

It's a sloppy, slushy mess that's stranding drivers. While we were out on Beechwood St. near Warren on Sunday, four cars got stuck in deep, icy ruts and could not get out. Residents blame a busted water main down the street that has been flowing freely for two weeks now. They say they've called the city over and over again but nothing's been done to stop the water from flowing.

Crews have put up police tape and barricades at several points on Beechwood to try to block it off, but as you can see, some are still trying to get through.

"In the past three days I've seen six people get stuck," one driver told us.

While we were there, a tow truck was call in to pull out one ice encrusted car, but it got stuck, too. A tow truck was needed to get the tow truck out. It's a problem residents want cleared up soon. They say getting home shouldn't be this hard.

We have a call in to Detroit's Water Dept. We're waiting for a call back.
